I am a white, female, age 50 with -3 to -4.8
I have taken Fosamax, Actenol, Evista, Boniva, and just finished my two year on Forteo injections. Now my Dr. wants me to go on Reclast. I have done my research on this drug, and I am so confused at what to do next. Why is your age good of 65 year old....Us younger women also could use some reasearch for us.
Sincerely,
Dlawrence

I have osteoporosis and have been advised to take Boniva, 150 mg, monthly or Reclast infusion, yearly. I had endometrial hyperplasia approximately 3 years ago. Is there a problem with either of the named products in relation to the hyperplasia or other female problems?

My mom has severe osteoporosis. She is 77 and has fractured or collapsed 8 vertebra in her back. She has had these filled with cement. I just took her to the nursing home today, because she is in so much pain from her thin bones. She can't take the Fosamax, Bonevia and Actonel. Either side-effects or can't swallow the pills. Reclast sounds like a miracle drug and I am sure she wouldn't care how much it cost as long as it would take her horrible pain away and help her bones. I hate to see her suffer. It was horrible today, took us 1 hour to get her out the house to the van.
I want to know serious side effects. Anyone know?

why not push to have this covered on medicare-d and have it filled from a pharmacy, or have infusion pharmacies provide this service. That way the docs do not have to carry the financial burden, the pharmacies will make something, the doc gets an office visit, and everybody is happy.

The atrial fib. issue is just now scratching the surface as is the hypocalcemia as well as the severe and incapacatating bone pain associated with this drug. When you reduce biochemical markers of bone turnover for an entire year patients must maintain high levels of calcium and vit. d in their system. The patients are not compliant typically experience these episodes long after the treatment is give. Basically patients are given a yearly medication with a TID dosing schedule for supplements ( 3 seperate 500g calcium per day.) Patients have been hospitalized from this drug for these reasons (not limited to this reason). There are better alternatives out there I.E. Tablets. Endo's and reum's are clear, IV should never be a first line therapy for PMO.

I am 60 yrs old with an initial bone density T score of T-4.3 done with QCT bone densitometry in 2003 at age 55. Immediately, I was put on Actonel. On 01/09/07 the lunar DPX study showed a score of -3.0. In september I was put on vitamin D as my level was 25.8. Otherwise I am healthy an no reason has been found for my fragile bones which were discovered upon routine chest x-ray. My upper spine showed fractures. I know I don't fit the age criteria to try the odanacatib, but I wish I didn't have to wait for approval 3 years from now. Is there any way I would be able to obtain this drug?
